Catalyst Track: You Are Free // Day Three
Rebekah Lyons
This track comes from Rebekah Lyons’ new book, You Are Free.
Many in the church cannot fathom the kind of freedom Christ’s pardon brings. We are so used to our prison cells, we don’t even know we are still in them! The doors are wide open—Christ tore them off the hinges two thousand years ago.
Many of us, though, still stand inside. My prayer is that we will begin to receive healing from our deepest wounds and discover that restoration brings true freedom.
As we abide in God’s presence, where he informs and sustains us, we can serve from a new place of freedom. Confession, whether it be a confession of repentance or a declaration of truth, begets freedom. There is no shortcut or strategy.
This is how we run free.
In this three-day track, Rebekah invites us on a journey of knowing the freedom we have already been given. Over the next couple of days, we will discover how Christ has made us:
- Set free
- Free to ask
- Free to pursue God’s mission in our lives
Leaders are often in the business of helping others walk out in their freedom. But do you know your own freedom? Do you live it? Do you serve from it?
DAY 3: Free to Step Out
Scripture is replete with examples of men and women stepping into their callings, and often, the one called by God is hesitant to trust or believe in this calling. Consider Jeremiah, the Old Testament prophet. God gifted him with ability and platform. While Jeremiah was serving the people, God tasked him with delivering a difficult message to the people of Judah: God was preparing an enemy to destroy Jerusalem because of the disobedience of God’s chosen people.
In the opening chapter of the book, Jeremiah describes it this way: The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
“Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not know how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say, ‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue you,” declares the Lord. Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth.”
No matter your calling, God chose you for a mission, and he appointed a purpose for you well before you were born. This purpose is to bring glory to Jesus, to be his very hands and feet. And if the task is daunting, remember this: as he calls you, he leans in and whispers, “Don’t worry; I’ll empower your work.”
CHALLENGE:
How have you seen God empower you in your work?
How will you step out in your mission and allow God to strengthen you in it NOW?
