In the spirit of the Choir's clever and creative leverage of music and performance to help educate children across Africa, our film will use a format in the family of Martin Scorsese's The Last Waltz to weave the story of the Choir and their impact together in a compelling and entertaining way.
Much of the story will be told through the eyes of two of the Choir’s newest members, eight-year-old Angel and nine-year-old Moses of slums near Kampala, Uganda. Neither Angel nor Moses’s families could afford to send them to school. They seemed destined for a spot in the destructive cycle of poverty faced by many in Africa today. We will see where these gifted children come from and experience their transformation touring the world and realizing their immense potential.
Former Choir members are now some of Africa’s most promising and prominent young leaders. We will hear these success stories from the orphans turn trusted news anchors, human rights attorneys, HIV/AIDS doctors, city engineers and famous recording artists now lifting their communities up on their own.
Most importantly, Angel and Moses’s story represents the thousands of Choir children that have been uplifted by the power of music and education. In fact, they represent most of the children on the continent of Africa who live on less than $1 a day. This film will inform the viewer of the hope, dignity and beauty of Africa’s children and how one organization is utilizing their music and culture to educate and develop communities across the continent.
