On Friday, September 14, Hurricane Florence made landfall as a Category 1 Hurricane near Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina — just east of Wilmington. Various areas of the Carolinas received record-breaking rainfall. Thousands of people are still without power, water rescues have taken place and 19 storm-related fatalities have been reported.
We have teamed up with Convoy of Hope to help provide relief to those who have been affected by the hurricane. Because of Convoy of Hope's quick response, they were the only disaster response organization who could immediately begin serving residents after Florence made landfall.
Thanks to the generosity of others and the hard work of volunteers, Convoy of Hope has already:
- Distributed more than 165,000 pounds of relief supplies.
- Convoy is distributing food, water, baby supplies, hygiene kits and other supplies to shelters, the National Guard, Emergency Operation Centers and neighborhoods in Wilmington.
- Served more than 2,500 families and 7,800+ individuals.
- Served the North Carolina communities of Raleigh, Raeford and Wilmington.
- Mobilized more than 100 volunteers.
- Partnered with multiple churches.
There is still a need for relief as there are still tens of thousands of people without power. Thousands of homes have suffered severe flooding. Convoy will also begin a clean-up campaign soon. Mobilizing local volunteers, we will go into neighborhoods and help people clean out their homes and ready them for repair.
